I had no idea how slow my internet connection would be here. I hope to post something meatier soon, but for now I just wanted to make it known that I have not dropped off the face of the planet, just the internet. 😄

I'd been waiting for days to get to the part of Florida where it makes sense to share one of my all-time favorite songs. I may have overshot it a little, or I might never get to the right area at all on this trip, depending on which map of Seminole territory you want to consider. The song went through my head often in the marshy parts of the state I drove through. I sometimes welcome songs that stick in my head, and this was one of those times. If you never listen to country music, then you've probably not heard it before. It's not cornball country, it's a heartfelt love song about Florida's beauty and its loss amidst the development of the state. The first link shows a live performance. Driving around Savannah

This was the first day of my trip when I wasn't either traveling to a new location or staying with someone I knew. So I had the whole day to myself and nowhere I needed to get to. I drove around Savannah looking for historic squares, interesting thrift stores, and Whole Foods Market, a total of about 50 miles of driving around looking at stuff. The city is much more tree-covered than I'm used to cities being. Not all streets are tree-lined, but big chunks of the city have mature live oaks draped with Spanish moss and mixed in with palm trees. On this overcast day, the subtle shades of green, gray, and brown were a really soothing feast for the eyes. This first shot is looking down one of the promenades in Forsyth Park. Being Goldilocks

I will soon get back to talking about where I've been and what I've seen, but this post is more about my inner journey. What do I mean by "Being Goldilocks"? I mean two things. First, I mean searching for the things that feel "just right" to me. That's about trusting my gut and looking for situations that suit me. Second, I mean searching for the "just right" in the things that I find. That's about how I hold whatever happens -- looking for the gifts in situations that may not appear on the surface to be "just right." Now on with the story... I've gotten pretty comfortable with handling my van, but I have not yet mastered a big vehicle state of mind. This is much more noticeable now that I'm in California.
